Confession #1: This was a Before shot of my own Master Bathroom counter (further humiliation is added by the reflection of an unmade bed in the mirror reflection)
Confession #2: The mess is all mine – My husband uses a different bathroom, so I can’t even blame the mess on someone else.
As I like to tell most clients, although I’m not always tidy, if I need to put things away, I know where they belong. To be fair, that was the case with the counter top. As you can see, I had a white basket for my hair products, a bin for my make up, and drawers and cabinets with plenty of room for my larger items like travel bags, hair dryer and lotion. But it was still a mess
I determined that my problem was an issue of not having the time to pack and store everything every single day along with using the wrong containerizing system. Here was my solution:
Step 1: Evaluate high use products and place those directly in the drawers using drawer organizers. I determined that my make up, hair products and eye care were top priority.
Step 2: Sort all of my make up by type and add additional beauty products including q-tips, deodorant and high use nail care (I rarely paint my nails, so the polish was placed underneath). This was put in one drawer. (*NOTE: For the make-up side, I used great inexpensive sorters from Ikea, paired with plastic sorters from London Drugs, which has a huge assortment of shapes to mix and match with)
Step 3: Sort all high use hair products, eye care, perfume, meds and first aid. Place them in the second drawer
Step 4: Place all lesser used items in baskets into the cabinets underneath the drawers.
Confession #3: I am now happy to report that my bathroom counter top now looks like this 90% of the time. It’s much easier to clean and the drawer organizers are working out perfectly. I haven’t had to change anything around and am loving the cleaner look.
